Jts1990
Hi all, I’ve been getting a fault where the ESC service warning light flashes and then the ABS warning light, traction control light and hill start assist light come on and the car goes limp, stays on for a few minutes then goes off and back to normal. Had 2 garages and 2 auto electrics shops look at it and no one can figure it out but the fault looks to be coming from the front driver side wheel. In the meantime I rang Ford who said there was an outstanding recall for the brake pumps which I assume is causing the issue. Anyone had a similar fault occur? alexp999
Might be an ABS sensor. There should be a fault logged if it triggered those lights. Something that can read ford specific codes like forscan should pick it up.
Jts1990
Thanks Alex, had a full diagnostic scan and no fault with the ABS sensor 🤔
alexp999
What was used to scan for codes? A generic reader often will not pickup all codes you need something capable of reading all Ford specific ones. Normally on Fords an error light will log a fault. I can scan a car that’s 6 months old and has never had a warning light and there will be minor faults about communication losses. It’s usually quite good at logging.
Jts1990
Not sure what type of reader was used sorry. I had a mechanic take the wheel off and check the wiring which was all fine and then had a test drive with the reader plugged in and everything was normal, the problem then went away for a week and then come back again. I’m hoping the recall for the brake hose will fix the issue.

Hi, I'm getting exactly the same issue on my 2016 Mondeo 1.5 TDCI Zetec, I also get a loss of power and my speedo stops working, then a few mins later, it all works fine??? has the recall fixed this issue?? unofix
From the sounds of it your problem is just the simple failure of one of the ABS wheel sensors. Use FORScan (NOT a generic code reader) to check for DTC's and tell you which sensor is failing. FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html vLinker FS cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP/ref=asc_df_B0952P4MLP/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=534732308385&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6117291150498290844&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006688&hvtargid=pla-1430824679036&psc=1 and by pure guess work I'll say it's the front drivers side wheel

Yet it happened again last Sunday 4 times while driving on the motorway only 15 miles. My speedo stops working and lack of power and very heavy steering which all rights itself when the warning lights go out???
unofix
What can I say..... ? The cause is very probably the intermittent failure of one of the ABS sensors. It may be a broken or damaged wire, a corroded connector or a defective sensor. Are you getting an EML or other warning light or message on the instrument cluster ? You could use the android mobile app of FORScan and then when it next happens you will be able to instantly check for any codes while the fault is present. Kevlee2000
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck resolving this. I have a 2017 SMax Vignale and the fault where the ESC service warning light flashes, ABS warning light flashes, traction control light flashes and hill start assist light come on and the car goes limp for a second or so, happened to me also. Happening 2 - 3 times every trip in the car now. As above, goes off itself after about 2 mins but is becoming infuriating. I've tried charging the battery, and this made no difference. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

ecsb
@Jts1990 @Nevetsben Any luck on figuring out what was going on with either of your cars/warning lights?

Greg35
Had the same fault with my 2015 Mondeo, I replaced both front ABS sensors about 3 weeks ago but the warning lights are still on, albeit they go off when I start to drive but come back on again at about 20mph. Do these lights need to be reset using a computer?
LostNTransit
If one is having issues with these sensors chances are they need to be replaced. if the sensors have been tested and checked or even cleaned in some cases.. then the wiring needs to be replaced. But as mentioned above the first thing needs to do is scan the system or have the system scan error code cleared. Plus and not to leave this out.. if your valve stems are not the correct frequency, the speed sensors may or may not catch a signal from the wheel rotation. rd457
There was a thread I responded to recently, which might have also been about a mondeo, relating to wheel speed sensor issues, where I remember advising, having seen something about in in a video, that there are connectors in the wheel arch areas that the sensor wires connect to that are susceptible to water/mud getting into them, causing issues. Perhaps this is the same thing.
Kevlee2000
Ok, finally got to the bottom of this. Had the computer plugged in to the car while driving. The strange thing is the car deletes the error with no record of it when the car is stopped and turned off. The issue was the front right wheel, which the fault scanner showed as travelling at 158mph compared to 25mph on all the other wheels. The error showed as the ABS Wheel speed sensors (often also called ABS sensors). I got this replaced and had the faults all cleared from the memory and in the 2 weeks since, there have been no problems. Hope this works for others. Good Luck! @unofix@ecsb@Greg35 2
