New member - Ford transit connect electrical fault

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m new here and hopefully someone can help me out or point me in the right direction as I’ve been looking for a power window electrical fault in my Ford transit connect 14 plate for a few weeks now (it’s maybe worth mentioning that im an approved electrician mostly domestic commercial AC supplies so when it comes to DC I understand it I know how to fault find it etc but this is puzzling the heck out of me) the fault in particular is voltage drop to both windows all the earth connections have been checked and I’m getting good continuity from negative of the battery to all the earth points, motor housings, etc I can find most readings no greater than 0.10ohms with a -0.03Vd which I understand is acceptable, however on the positive side I’m getting something like 1.03v (+ to ground) coming into the female plug on the passenger door and basically nothing at the drivers side

- when I remove the door harness from the inner pillar plug I’m getting the same readings (so it can’t be a damage wiring harness inside the door).

- I’ve held my continuity tester over the driver and passenger window control switch contacts and I can test the switch works fine

- yes I’ve checked the fuses, 🤦‍♂️ lol f29 in the engine compartment and there’s apparently (according to the owners manual) a secondary fuse box inside at the passenger footwell, but that has no fuses for the powered windows

- i can’t see anything relating to the windows being controlled by a relay (otherwise I would have checked this)

- I’ve also checked the motors work, after an hour driving between jobs and no air con!! With the sun blazing 26degrees c last year my van was like an oven so had no choice but to rip my door cards off run a temp cable straight out the battery to the driver and passenger door to open the windows needless to say was a nightmare getting them to close again haha.

anyhoo With having 4 kids my own business to run etc I find it hard to spend a lot of time looking deeper and deeper into the vans poorly identified wiring system I’ve checked all the obvious things that an electrician would which makes me think there is something in between the f29 fuse and either door control switch like a relay that Ford haven’t identified in there owners manual or something silly that I’m overlooking.

not afraid to say that sparky of 12 years love my job but I hate vehicle electrics so much after this please someone help 😂

Have you checked the supplies to the Door control modules ?

There is one in each door the 'PDM' and the 'DDM'

If you get a laptop and download the software FORScan (it's free) and connect to the OBDII port you will be able to check for any DTC's and also check the operation of the DCM's.

FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

Connecting Lead, 'vLinker FS': https://www.bmdiag.co.uk/forscan-diagnostic-cable-for-ford-vgate-vlinker-fs

Hi welcome

Did the windows have one touch up and down and power folding mirrors?
