Lo all. I was hoping I could ask a question.

The air-conditioning pump has gone on my 2002 1.8TDci Focus. I could take it to a garage but I'm having a hard time finding one I can trust.

The local Ford dealer can't even figure out how to employ people to answer phones, so doesn't inspire much confidence.

One local indepentant garage has already screwed me, and I'm not eager to let another one do the same...

HAving worked on my motorcycles and done basic maintenance on the cars, I've never had air-con before.

Are air-con pumps something I could change, save for the gas recharging which I could take it to Kwik Fit For?

Any help appreciated.

in simple no if the pumps failed its thrown crap into the system which needs to be flushed out only aircon specialists have this fluid that can flush the system then a new condenser is needed as the old one will be useless the new pump will be fitted with new o rings and special filters that you cant buy anywhere only the specialists have them then it needs teted and refilled then cleaned look for mobile aircon specialists in the yellow pages or on the net that will come to you they will diagnose it usually free ior for a small charge and tell you the total costs.

if you put a new pump on youreself youre throwing the cash away as after a few months if yioure lucky the metallic fragments from the old pump will get into the new one and brweak that the pumps fail for 2 reasins either the shaft breaks putting fragments in the system or the actual compressor unit packs in which does the same thing you can however get a second hand compressor from say a scrap yard and ghave the mobile guy fit that id ego for a new one as you have no idea how liong it will last
