Error Code P0203: Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Malfunction

Recommended Posts

Hello - new to forum, usually in the Audi one for my car - but my daughter's car is playing up, and I have always had such good responses from forums, I thought I'd try here.

Bear with me:

Huge floods, car driven through one, then starts misfiring - I scan the car and get the Error Code P0203: Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Malfunction code. Off to local garage: Put on new coil pack, no difference, renew the whole injector rail, no difference apart from a new crankshaft code!

Is it worth me buying a PCR off eBay and slapping that on? And if so, do I need to recode it, or is it ok out of the box so to speak?

The mechanic and I are at a loss - so over to you, the hive mind.

It's the 2010 zetec model

Thanks in advance

The clue might be in “injector circuit” replace as many items as you want, if there is a fault in the circuit nothing will change. What scan tool are you using there may be codes your not picking up as well.

Mk2 Ka injector looms can be bought on eBay for as little as £15.  I'd try that before a PCM.

However, the crank sensor fault would be worth following up.  The Ka uses an unusual crank sensor setup which needs to be calibrated to work correctly.  That's also far more likely to get hit by flood water.

thanks...he did the rail, but I agree the loom would be my next go. He did replace the crank sensor...but said nothing aboiut calibration - do you have a link to anything regarding that? Thanks so much btw

This post from @iantt might be the answer.

If the MIL warning light flashes on the control panel, the engine rpm sensor irregularity learning procedure must be carried out.

- With the engine running, wait for it to warm up (approx. 77°C).

- Press the accelerator at least 3 times until 6000 rpm is reached; after each press, completely release the accelerator pedal and wait until the engine rpm comes down to the minimum value.

- If the MIL warning light is still flashing at the end of the operation, it means that the self-learning is not complete, therefore repeat the operations described above until the warning light stops flashing.

- Turn the engine off and wait a minute for the data to be stored in the permanent memory.

-The Ford diagnostic instrument may be used to find out whether the sensor irregularity has been learnt or not, irrespective of the information displayed on the MIL warning light.

That thread stopped after I posted my one. Never know if he tried relearning or not.
