New owner, Grand Tourneo Connect questions... :0)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just picked up a Titanium GTC, got a few questions, wondered if the good people here might have some answers?

1. Can I presume correctly that unless it was specced with a spare wheel option when originally purchased, a jack isn't included? (I know you don't need it to get the inflator & goo to work, but it's still handy...)

2. Looking at retrofitting a spare wheel underneath (hence, q.1!), has anyone who's done it been able to fit a full size alloy/steel, or is it gonna be a spacesaver?

3. Anyone know what the maximum memory size USB stick works for the audio systems on these? Got a Sync3 stereo in it, and coming from an older Octavia where 32gb was the most it would handle, but can't find anything as to what's usable for this system.

4. Longshot, this one, but does anyone with a 7 seater know if the very rear, 3rd row, seatbelt retainers on the plastic trim just pop off and on again? Was snapped when I got it, and getting conflicting reports that it's either pop in/out, or you need to take the whole trim off cos it's secured behind it.

5. Lastly, not a huge fan of the keyless thing, for theft reasons... anyone got any good recommendations for Faraday boxes I can't wang the keys in when at home that ACTUALLY work on the GTC keys?

Cheers all, looking forward to finding out loads of stuff about my new motor in the coming years. :0)

Hi,

There aren't many Transit owners on here I'm afraid, so it may take while to get Transit specific answers.

1. Correct.

2. Don't know.  Would suspect spacesaver only.

3. No maximum size.  But there is a maximum track limit of about 50,000.

4. No idea

5. Any solid metal tin will work fine.  In the past a 'baccy tin might have been used but nowadays it's more likely to be from sweets or biscuits.  (Unless anyone still uses boot polish?)  Alternatively, you can switch off keyless entry in the dashboard settings.

Thanks guys. Found some obscure bits in the manual (NOT where I expected to find the relevant info!) and online and worked out a few answers, for anyone that's bothered.

1. Manual does say you only get a jack and brace if its specced with rhe spare wheel, but I found that by accident!

2. Full size steel or spacesaver seem to be allowed

3. See above, haven't found better answers

4. The retainer (part 2244568) is a ridiculously expensive 2" bit of plastic that does indeed just pop out and back in again, thankfully (also that the dealer paid for a replacement... 44 quid!!)

5. Tried a metal tin first off, but no joy so bought a couple of "proper" boxes off amazon. One worked most of the time, the other worked all the time and is wall mountable so went for that. Happy days.

1) A scissor jack should have been included located at the rear molded panel in a pocket.

Incorrect. Not on a UK specification vehicle.

it is obvious that the Transit Connect tis world wide thus it very difficult when someone asks a question without speaking what options they have as many of these connects are identical. So I suspect that you would rather I not say anything because I do not know the difference in the UK connect as compared to the North American connect. Thus I have just as much right to reply as I see fit to those questions I feel that I have something to offer and if my replies offend you, then by all means ignore them as I've ignored you @unofix

It's cool, but it's a Tourneo connect, not a transit connect. Is that the same thing in America?

@El Spavo The Tourneo Connect and Transit Connect are nearly identical, Yet have differences in the seating of course as well as options available to you. However you country may have implemented laws that prohibit the removal of seat belts etc. I personally do not see an issue with removing the third row seats along with the belts. But as I said check with your counties government before removing something.

For any interested party, I've now seen some pics of this done and turns out there's no weight sensor, it's just a wire running to the seatbelt clip. So you can unbolt the seats (just 4 bolts), and a single torx screw/nut bolts the seatbelt buckle & stem to the seat itself. Once you've done all 5, you can take the seat out and plug the seatbelt connector back in as if the seat was still in place. The 2 guys who showed me said they pulled the carpet up and ran the cabling to the side pockets in the boot so it's safe from damage. Job done!

Have to inform insurance though as seen as a modification, as has been said elsewhere. No impact on mot though.

Hi.

If you have any issues with insurance at all for modifications then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.
