Powershift, Shift Solenoid D and the battery

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a 2014 Mondeo with the Powershift automatic gearbox. The other day it decided it didn't know what gear it wanted to be in, which occurred after a few jerky untimely changed. It _seemed_ OK in S mode, however.

At one point it got so bad I thought I would require recovery from the AA.  The dash gave 'transmission limited function' or words to that effect. The AA mechanic read the code as Shift Solenoid D stuck. After clearing the code, he escorted me home - and the 8 mile drive home was faultless. I drove it round the block twice and got the occasional hiccup, but no dash warning.

After reading stuff on here from @DaveT70 about how crucial a good battery is, I decided to give it a good charge. It is at least 5 years old and read 12.06V cold (yes - not good). A few trips round the block and all seemed well. Is it possible that this is all all it might have been. Should I invest in a new battery before I scrap the thing, as I don't fancy spending the quoted 2800 min to rebuild the gearbox 😉

Many thanks in advance!

Spend £100 and put a new battery on it 👍
