Towing with Ford edge 2018 sport

Featured Replies

Hi has anyone had problems with towing a caravan Had my edge from new done 48000 miles been towing all these years no problem but in may 2023 the spanner 🔧 light came on pulled off the motorway turned off turned back on spanner 🔧 was gone, carried on never came on again,  had it serviced didn’t find any problems.

Driving around without caravan I have no problems, garage’s suggested to replace the solenoid which I did, the next time it happened they  suggested that I  replaced had the dpf sensor which I did still the spanner 🔧 light comes on and goes into limp mode I  also replaced the battery another suggestion

can anyone help or had the same problem

also had towbar electrics checked for car and caravan

If the car is putting the spanner light on and going in to limp mode then there has to be a DTC. Have the codes been read either by a Ford dealer or by using FORScan software ?

Don't use a generic code reader as it will not see the code.

Hi yes the codes were read by Ford dealer p0299 which was underboost  but it has not solved the problem

So you still have the underboost fault ?

Yes still have it

So the problem that you have is the turbo underboost. Which understandably shows up more when towing.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the garage has been changing the things above to fix an underboost problem. Depending on which solenoid was changed then there may have been some reasoning in that, but a DPF sensor or a new battery would not be on my list of things to replace. I'd be looking for air/vacuum leaks. Perhaps @TomsFocus could offer you some pointers as he has more knowledge than me on this kind of problem.

Thanks

There are really only about 4 things that can cause underboost:

1. Loose or split boost hose/intercooler
2. Faulty MAP sensor (under-reading)
3. Faulty turbo actuator/solenoid/vac pipe
4. Worn turbo internals

Does the 2.0L 2018 Edge have an EGR? If so, then a faulty EGR valve can also cause underboost.

Yes it does.  Complex & expensive EGR assy on these, so hopefully not that in this case.

Hi Eddie did you get your car fixed? My car just started getting same fault P0299 and nobody knows where the problem is.
