Engine Cutting Out

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2003 registered Ford Mondeo LX TDCI (Diesal) 1998cc estate car.

Recently she started cutting out at low speeds (only), typically when just pulling away.

The car was taken to my local garage and a sub contract electrician has adjusted something. The car now runs properly for some or most of the time but can occasionally cut out. At the time of the initial problem, the glow plug warning light would come on and the engine would run roughly. This has now stopped.

Now when running, sporadically, a full range of warning lights come up, including the engine sign, the battery sign, the low temperature lights, and both the speedometer and rev meter fail. The temperature dial and the mileometer dial both show no readings but just rows of dashes and a C (temperature dial). These symptoms then disappear and come back on when driving.

Any ideas on a cure?

Thanks for your time.

i wonder what the mec adjusted as most things are ecu controlled, cuting out at low speed is usually caused by the crank sensor getting mucked up and then losing the signal to the ecu, you could remove the sensor and check that its clean. the dash lights are puzzling, i would get the battery and alternator checked out.

Hi/

Thanks for the response.

My wife has driven the car today and the situation has become worse. Rather than typically cutting out while pulling away (at low speed)the car is cutting out at higher speeds (difficult to judge the speed due to speedo failure).

I have a double whammy in that there is potential problems with the steering pump (that is another story) and the local garage say they will deal with this first (another pump is on order).

I just wonder whether there were any other thoughts?

I repeat what I found on another forum:

Problem: Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 2001Engine cutting out.

Solution: A common problem with this year TDCi engine is a bad connection for the fuel pressure sensor. To rectify the problem, a gold electrical connector should be used instead of the tin connector.

Your help is appreciated.
