That is possible. I guess it depends on how good a job the garage did with the diagnostics.

RAC man told her to replace something on the air inlet side (she couldn't tell me what), to no effect, the local garage had her replace a speed sensor to no effect and the next step was an ECU replacement. She took it to a country-boy mechanic she knows and he discovered the fuel filter was blocked and the pump was stuffed with debris. Now going fine with both replaced.

Good old RAC, charge a fortune, make you wait for hours then get the diagnoses wrong...

well, that didn't last long, just got a call to say it's stuttering now,  I'm guessing he didn't clean the injectors out and has maybe dislodged some crap that's got into them. I've pulled them from my mk1 focus before but is there anything I need to know before pulling them from a 1.8l petrol mk3? (2006) not sure how to purge the fuel pressure on this engine, on the focus you just pull the fuse to the fuel pump and crank the engine.
