Ford KA Phonic Wheel Relearn following Timing Belt change.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. My daughter purchased a 2012 Ford KA in October and all good. However she has started to go on the motorway recently having passed her test. She then gets the usual warning lights at about 70mph, with the engine losing power and running roughly. Turn car off and on and all good. I think the timing belt was changed about 5000 miles previously so am pretty sure it needs a phonic wheel relearn.

For the life of me I can’t find a garage/dealer that knows how to do this in the Manchester/ Stockport area. Either I get a blank look or the one that knew about it said it’s a dangerous process as you need to redline the engine for 3 minutes (which I know is not true).

Is there anyone out there that knows a garage/mechanic that can do this please. I know it needs either the Ford software but also believe it works with the Fiat software, and then needs to be revved to 6,000 revs 3 times (or so YouTube says).

I would be willing to travel to anywhere in the North West.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you asked any Fiat garages?  This is purely a Fiat thing, it's not used on any other Ford car.

It would definitely seem that a Fiat garage is the answer. You could always send @Cragrat a message since they have had success fixing this problem.

Had fault codes  plus going into limp mode post cam belt change. Carried out the phonic wheel re learn IAW  Technical: phonic wheel - The FIAT Forum. fixed the problem. I used the run engine until fan cuts in then ran to 5000 3 times procedure. Worth a try before taking to garage.
