Transit Custom 2.0 Blocked fuel filter/Low fuel pressure

Featured Replies

Good Morning, Everyone,

I'm new here and this is my first post. I have encountered a problem with my transit custom 2.0 ecoblue. It started a month ago from cold and it used to hesitate in 2nd gear from start and then would be absolutely for the rest of the day. Unfortunately the problem started to get worse and started to happen more frequent in different gears. Then last week i was getting the blocked fuel filter on the dash (no eml light) just feels like limp mode as once you give it some gas it just starts juddering until you move up the gears and still continues to do this which is a nightmare and basically undriveable. The Minibus in now sat at the garage and I've had all the attached codes in the computer pointing to low fuel pressure, I have had 3 new fuel filters one been OEM spec and the latest from ford and still same problem. I have had a sender pump replaced on the tank and had wiring checked I have also had the highlighted part below replaced bought directly from ford and still the same. I have attached all readings and screenshots etc and diagnosis report from my topdon attached below. Has anybody on here encountered this issue and shed some light on what to maybe try next. Any help would be very much appreciated, i have 4 other ford vehicles and i am happy to also contribute to any posts now i have joined.

Thanks very much in advance.

Allan

Hi Allan, welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

This is problem is outside of my knowledge base but first thing I'd recommend is using FORscan and a vLinker FS cable to check for Ford specific DTC's. Your Topdon code reader quite often does not read the Ford specific codes.

I assume it still starts, but is just running very poorly.

  • What mileage has the engine done ?
  • Has the timing belt been replaced recently ?
  • I notice that the AdBlue warning is also on have you refiled that yet ?

Perhaps @TomsFocus might have some ideas

Hi thanks for your reply. I've not topped up the adblue as the light has just come on and  the range has around 1290 miles left. The engine was changed 85k ago under warranty with ford the vehicle mileage is 217k ish. Also the timing belt has literally just been done around 4k ago. It has gone to another garage for a second opinion who should have much better software than myself. I can't get it in to ford in Lincoln till 15th so hoping to have it sorted before then with some luck. It was running lovely until this now it running like it is starved of fuel as it is vibrating/juddering and not going any faster until you keep going up gears.

Many thanks,

Allan

If the high pressure pump was kept from the original engine and now at 217k then I'd suspect that myself.

Hi yes it is the original high pressure pump. That was my thoughts to start with however having low fuel pressure readings the garage decided to go down that route first. I did have a high pressure pump go on our 2010 Tourneo last year and it had different symptoms holding back whilst boosting in 3rd/4th and sometimes cutting out completely no codes however on that one as I've checked back we just had pump replaced and it sorted it out, I guess though that it may have different symptom's with it been a different van/engine. Might have to bite the bullet and get one on.

many thanks

Before i take the hit of a new high pressure fuel pump, would it be possible that its the fuel pressure regulator or failing injectors?

all the best & many thanks

Fuel pressure regulator is certainly possible, though it's part of the HP pump on these and not available separately.

I don't think it's the injectors myself.  They can't really drop rail pressure unless they're stuck wide open or extremely worn to the point of excess leak-off.  Neither of those sound likely with the symptoms in the first post.
