Repair or not repair-powershift gearbox

Hi

I am really stuck with this one. I have a 63 plate 163 AWD 20. ltr Diesel 76k on the clock. The car came up with a transmission warning, limped home then promptly lost all drive with the addition of the engine maintenance light coming on. RAC read a code relating to  drive solenoid stuck, suggested an oil flush and service. It was due in June 24. The approved mechanic tasked to repair our car, said we were wasting our time. It was terminal. Anyhow I have been quoted 3.5-4k +vat to get the thing back on the road. It seems a standard figure for clutch and or gearbox rebuild. My issue is, having just got a 21 plate first edition, is it worth repairing the 63 plate. I have heard that rebuilt boxes don't have the greatest longevity and to have it repaired only to move the car on is a gamble. It would be our second car , it looks like its just come out of the box and it has served us we , we don't do too much mileage so it hasn't been worked hard at all. We were offered 4-5k part ex before it expired. My question and sorry to waffle on, am I throwing good money after bad on this one?

How absolutely sure are you that the gearbox is beyond saving ?

Personally I'd get the oil changed, and get all codes read using FORScan before making any sudden decisions.

@DaveT70 might have some ideas on this.

Could just be a poor battery, check your voltage

A solenoid could be the issue or just a broken wire

You could spend all the money on internals and still have the fault

Get the voltage and the wiring checked first, before you decide to spend lots of money

Thanks for the info, will have look at the suggested first and see what happens.  We noticed one iffy gear change then it lost drive.
