KA mk2 2012 Auto Stop Start not available message help neede

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a problem with my 2012 Mk2 KA and need some help or advice.

As the subject says my Auto Stop Start is not working.

It stopped working a couple of years ago and when I first looked into it the general advice I could find pointed to a tired battery, so I put up with it not working until the battery gave up.  This has now happened, couldn't believe the original battery lasted 12 years, but a nice new Battery that is for Auto stop start has been fitted but the ***** is still not working.

Other than the battery is there anything else that would stop it working.

I did read that the BMS needs resetting after a battery change but the KA2 appears to not have a reset function.  I did try disconnecting the battery for 12 hours which some said forces a reset but this again did not fix the issue.

Anyone got any thoughts as to what the problem might be.

Thanks for any help with this.

At the last count there are 256 individual threads on this subject each of them with dozens of questions and answers. Anything that can be asked has been.

In short Stop/Start is a pure gimmick designed solely for the purpose of obtaining emissions type approval under laboratory test conditions, nothing more, nothing less.

On a Ford Focus there are 114 individual conditions that have to be met before S/S will operate. I expect that the number will be similar on the Ka. So if and when all the conditions are "just so" then your S/S will work.

@alexp999 may have something to add 🤣

My wife also has a 2012 Ka, she's had it since it was 2 years old and the start stop has never worked.  The dash just says 'Start/Stop unavailable'.

As an aside, the first time I encountered S/S was on a Land Rover Freelander 2 at a time when 4x4s  were frowned on** and LR wanted to do a bit of greenwashing. It worked for a couple of weeks, as I recall.

**Now everyone seems to have an SUV and no-one seems bothered!😀
