Kuga keyless start issue

Featured Replies

Hi all

This fault is puddling my brain mainly as I have worked out what's wrong but don't know how the car manages the circuit to nail the fault. So it's a keyless start system and upon getting into the car and pressing the button with clutch down there is no crank.

Scanned the car and no current codes so checked the usual culprits like clutch switch and all OK.

Looking at live data everything seems to check out in relation to ready to start condition. With key in car and ignition on the car can be started my shorting the starter relay and runs and drive perfect.

Checking the switching circuit at the relay both connection to pcm and keyless module are to ground even when attempting cranking.

Verified continuity to pcm and keyless module to relay so no broken wires.

Now my question is should one of either the pcm or keyless module go to battery voltage when certain conditions are met and which one as the wiring diagram does not clearly show what it should be.

Thanks

Tim

Starter button switch? I'm no auto-electrician but that's what I would check next. On a 2012 car it's had an awful lot of pushes 🙂

Strangely enough, there have been a couple of other cases recently of the Starter button being faulty.

It'll probably turn out to be a 2002 Ford Ka 🤣

Hi all. Sorry just got back from work. Thanks for the reply.

Looking at the wiring diagram on this the button is a simple single pole single throw switch with two wires. As the ignition turns on when the button is pressed and turns the engine off when it's running i dont think it would be the switch. I have added a wiring diagram below. The two red circles are both to ground.

My thinking is, pcm goes to battery when the button is pressed. The keyless module goes ground when key inside the vehicle and gives start approval.

Sorry its a 2010 model and I double checked and it definitely a kuga. This is my second ford this year and both gave me electrical issues.

That went bye bye. Cost of repair was more than the car.

Don’t know where the Pats is but sometimes in the cluster. May be worth thumping the dash directly above the cluster. Unlikely but solder joint issues within are not uncommon in the mk1
