Mondeo White Smoke Diesel

Well it sounds like it's been narrowed down to a fault somewhere between the front and rear bumpers.

EGR cooler is a good shout actually.  As the guesses are getting more & more broad, I think it is worth ruling out exhaust in the coolant using a sniff test.  I would expect any local garage to be able to do it for you if you don't want to buy a test kit just for a single use.

Once we confirm it's not coolant in the exhaust, that only leaves fuel or oil.  Oil smoke can be white if it's coming from the exhaust seal on the turbo, but when I popped a turbo the smoke filled the carriageway, it was much more severe than on your videos.  Which does suggest that it probably is over-fuelling, or that soot is smoldering in the exhaust instead of being burnt properly during regen.

The garage confirmed its trying to constantly regen and appears to be diesel entering the exhaust. Something about NOX but they can't be 100% sure. They looked at turbo and the rest of it and said its DPF.

Not sure what it could be. Do you think it actually is a sensor? Or the injector, vaporiser or glow plug or something?

The vaporiser squirts diesel directly into the exhaust so that does make sense.  That is how the regen process works on these.

We would need to see live diagnostics and/or fault codes from Forscan to determine why it keeps trying to regen.  It could be a pressure sensor, or the pipes to the sensor, or it could simply be too full of soot or ash to complete a regen.  Impossible to guess without seeing the same inputs that the PCM is seeing.

Could it be NOX? They said something about this sensor but they are speculating as one of the causes.

THE DPF has been cleared out according to the other garage when they did the force regen. Went from full blockage to 5%

I'm not sure whether a 2016 Mondeo has a separate NOx sensor.

NOx is usually reduced by EGR on cars without Adblue.  Some had a NOx trap fitted shortly before Adblue became a necessity but again I'm not sure a 2016 Mondeo did.

Earlier models used a wideband lambda sensor to roughly calculate NOx in the exhaust.

There's nothing to visually see on either a lambda or NOx sensor.  We would need to see the readings from those using Forscan.

Is this something I can do myself by getting the Forscan machine?

Yes.  It can be used on either a laptop or Smartphone.

You just need to buy an adapter.  Either a cable or a wireless one, depending on the type of device you're going to use.  (Links courtesy of Unofix)

Would this one work?

Are you selling this stuff?

Maybe.  But the older ELM327 cables are no longer recommended by Forscan.  They recommend V-Linker or OBDLink Ex.  You can read their recommendations here.  FORScan Home

I am not selling them and have no connection to Forscan.

OK.

Would I be able to produce a dump of results from the software. To perhaps show here if I need help evaluating?

It's easiest to take screenshots to upload here.  Though you can also save full logs which other forums members can open if they have Forscan on their device.

Once you've got the adapter, the first thing to do is a global scan of all modules to see which fault codes come up.  You can then post a screenshot of those.  Some will be old, Forscan tells you which are still current and which were previously triggered.

Depending on the results of that scan, the next step is to use the live data function to record DPF pressures and temperatures etc.

Thanks mate I will give that a try just wondering because I don't have a laptop. If the Android software is good enough though I assume the same Bluetooth adaptor should work fine with the Windows software if needed

I've never used the phone versions myself.  As far as I understand, the wireless version does the same scans and live data displays for fault diagnosis.  It just can't be used to reprogram any modules.
