The point of the app connectivity was to be able to access vehicle features away from the car.  Bluetooth and WiFi don't have the range for that.  Needs to be a mobile or satellite signal.  When you're in the car you can access all the info through the dash screens.

Sure I read that most of the functionality has now been removed from the app anyway though, so you're not missing much!

I think the penny has dropped….I wondered was was wrong with my last statement…I just realised that although my car was registered in 2022 (and so I expected a modem to be fitted), it says on my FordPass app that it is a 2018 model! Must have sat in a field rusting for years before being registered. 

I get the impression that Ford have lost the ability to deal with the increasing complexity of software if stuff is being removed from its app (just see the comments on the latest update). Maybe they will start with the mechanics soon, ‘sorry, steering wheels are no longer supplied due to cost, please accept this joystick to improve your user experience…’

Model year is a new phase of production when specs get changed slightly. 

It doesn't refer directly to the build date or the registration date.

The Ecosport specs weren't regularly updated so you'll probably find it's a 2018 model year but built in 2020 or 2021.

I have been trying out wired Carplay for the first time. I was using Google Maps (UK). But…what extra is Carplay supposed to give? I set my iphone to show traffic, but this does not show on the Car screen, although the general map does, so, this is no more info than my Sync 3 navigation gives. I see the Carplay phone symbol on the car screen, but I can already use my phone via Sync3 bluetooth, so what is the point of having it again? I don’t use audio streaming like Spotify as the built in DAB radio provides all the entertainment I can handle while driving. I am struggling to see the point of Carplay, anyone care to enlighten me please 🙂

I don't think you're the target market...   Music streaming is one of the biggest advantages.

It's odd that traffic isn't showing on the car side though.  CarPlay is meant to mirror your phone.
