MK4.5 windscreen types i.e. IR or non-IR

Featured Replies

Hi all - after 12.5 years own ownership I've finally replaced my trusty 2005 MK2 Focus 1.8 TDCi (184K miles) with the car I 've wanted for a good few years (a MK4.5 2.2 TDCi TXS manual) with good service history but a few niggles that I'm in the process of sorting out.

1 such issue is that the windscreen needs replacing (I knew this when I purchased it) due to a crack, the current windscreen isn't a genuine Ford/OEM one so I don't necessarily trust that it's the exact spec that came from the factory. So before I sort out having it replaced, does anyone have the answers to the following questions:

  1. Did all facelift TXS come from the factory with an IR windscreen or was is only cars with a specific 'pack' specced etc?
    1. If it's the latter, does anyone know what the criteria/pack was to have an IR windscreen supplied?
  2. Now us mere peasants can no longer access FordETIS to see the exact spec of our cars as they were from the factory, does anyone here still have access to this sort of info and if so, would you mind running my VRM through to see what mine came from the factory with? (I'm only really interested in the windscreen type TBH)

I had planned on posting some pics of my new ride but she's cosmetically a bit rough (especially the wheels), so that'll have to wait until it's been sorted over the coming months. I've already treated her to 4 new sensors (including the pre-cat lambda, new fuel, air and pollen filters) and an engine bay detail, she drives really nicely but just needs some love to sort out the cosmetic side of things.

Cheers

Hi @FatHead1979 congratulations on your new car 🎉🎉🎉

Don't forget to update your profile with your MONDEO's details. I hope meets all your hopes and expectations, it's always nice when you change your car and get something that you've always wanted.

Sorry I don't know what the original windscreen would have been but I expect that 'TomsFocus' or 'iantt' will probably know the answer.

Cheers mate.

I know it varied, so it's not one of the questions where the answers is something along the lines of "one size fits all".

Ironically I spent a good couple of minutes updating my signature but forgot all about the 'Ford Model' profile field! 🤦‍♂️

I don't know on the Mondeo either.  Though I suspect it's only cars with rear privacy glass and/or cars with full leather interior.

It was part of the X pack on my Mk2.5 Focus (which had both privacy glass and full leather).  The first screen Autoglass brought out wasn't IR and the tech wouldn't fit it.  Despite me saying I really didn't care about the IR.

I managed to track down a PDF version of Ford UK's 2011 Mondeo product brochure, which confirms that it was part of the 'Summer pack' i.e. if a TXS doesn't have a sunroof, it ain't going to have an IR windscreen from the factory.

No privacy glass in the Summer Pack?  Who designs these packs!?
