Kuga TPMS Valve - ebay purchase?

Featured Replies

Kuga 2.0 Diesel 150 MK2, 2019

So - I'm getting a spare wheel for the car, and it will need a valve and TPMS sensor. (IMO Best to carry a proper spare, esp. when towing a caravan! - instead of the skinny.)

My first instinct is to get it from the Official_Ford_Store on Ebay, which has provided me with parts in the past.

However there are lots of sellers that charge a lot less.

has anyone experience of purchasing outside the official ford stockists?

Examples are

Unofficial supplier

Official (maybe!) supplier

Thanks - Richard

I have plenty of experience purchasing 'outside official Ford stockist...'

Most recent example is my MOT failure which need 2 x steering rack gaiters. Official Ford price was £130 for each one totaling £260, I got both replacements (which passed) for £12!

Didn't ask the question right! Anyone bought the TPMS sensors outside of the official Ford suppliers and if so, were they OK?

@unofix had some outside the official ford suppliers.

Not sure what this means Unofix - are you telling me that if I don't fit the genuine Ford item, I have to get the secial tool and go through all this faff, instead of e.g. when I did something similar to my 2020 Focus I juust fitted the wheel and it simply worked?

I had assumed that the "Tyre pressure monitoring system reset procedure" on page 258 of the owners manual Menu item or reset button) would do the work.

If not, maybe I should just get the tyre depot to fit the valve+sensor when I have a tyre fitted to the new rim...

It won't work in the way that you're thinking.  The car will continue to read the pressure from the flat tyre when you put that one in the boot.  If you completely remove the flat tyre from the car and leave it at home, you will need to 'add' the new wheel & sensor using a tool as above.

This is going to sound like a silly question, but - does the wheel have to be on the car to set up the new sensor, or just in the boot - or even leaning up aganst one of the other wheels? The reason I ask of course is that since its going to be a spare, I could do without having to swop wheels around - these 19" efforts are a tad heavy for me these days!!

The wheel can be anywhere within a few feet of the car, it doesn't need to be fitted.  (Also make sure you're not parked next to another car with TPMS!)

However, the wheels are programmed to each corner on modern Fords, so the display can show individual pressures.  So there is no point programming the sensor on a wheel that is not yet fitted to the car.

Thanks for that Tom - my previous car (A 2020 focus, now written off) did show the pressures on each corner but its replacement (A 2019 Kuga) does not. I'm almost tempted to simply put the valve and sensor onto the rim, then take it round to have a tyre fitted! Unless my local tyre depot can do it - I've had bad expereinces in the past with TPMS valves, both F1 Autocentres and Halfords  really didn't seem to want to know. Next big decision - whether to spend £200-odd on a matching tyre, or just put a cheapo on for emergencies only. Ho hum ...

If you are only looking at a tyre for emergency use, why not consider a part worn?

I've used part worn tyres in the past when I was doing a high mileage and taking my car into places where I was likely to get punctures, with no problems.

Just Google "part worn tyres near xxxx", and see what comes up.
