Dash Lights

Featured Replies

I had issues, mentioned elsewhere on forum, regarding battery drain, which I think was cured by disconnecting the Blue Tooth Module.

But now driving it in the dark more I have noticed that when the ignition is turned off some of the warning lights stay on, very dimly for quite a while before going out completely.

I suspect an earthing issue, does anyone know if there is a common earth  or could it be normal ?

Thanks

My thoughts would be a failing/faulty instrument cluster.

What warning lights are staying on ?

Oil, Ignition, Seatbelt and the 'A' for stop-start. All very dim.

Is the failing cluster a known issue or my bad luck ?

Could be water ingress to the GEM.

@rd457 would know more about a Mondeo 2000 instrument cluster.

I've never encountered a Mk2/3 Mondeo cluster, sorry. I have however worked on Transit units of similar vintage. If it has a 32-pin connector the connector solder joints could be cracked, but very unlikely if 26-pin. I've also had some success with scrubbing the circuit boards clean with IPA. Maybe that's all yours needs.

Doh ! Sorry I didn't specify the car. It is for a 2015 KA which was my Wife's. I'm running til sold.

My car is the Mondeo, which has issues but the cluster is fine, sort of ! 😉

Oh, well a 2015 KA shouldn't be affected by cracked solder joints, and probably too new to need a clean.

It's a common issue on the KA. Don't know what causes it but there have quite a few people with the same or similar issue on the forum.

Thanks for the input. Does not appear to be an issue, but I wonder was this contributing to the battery going flat.

The Auto-Elec who looked at that problem did mention a draw from the BCM. Putting 2+2 together ? 🤔
