Mk7 1.5 tdci Running gear re-new Oem or cheap coilovers ?

Featured Replies

I like to change all my running gear in the near future shocks springs arms bushes etc but obviously like everyone id like to get a deal and spend as little as possible. i can do all the work myself no issues, i was going to just get oem shocks and oem bushings but there quite expensive after costing

oem Front os leg part number 2037969  i keep getting referenced is £149 each and that's no spring or top hat.

oem Rear os damper part number 2101629 £112 but is complete with top mount but i still need springs and isolators and then axel bushes.

so basically i be into best part of £500 quid and still have springs and other parts to buy.

but i came across a set of max speeding rod coilovers for £165 delivered that includes front and rear dampers and springs i still need to get new top hats though.

and isolators for the rear ... has anyone here ever fitted them on there cars as i have seen mixed reviews some say there ok others say total garbage.

i am very tempted to just give them a try as i figured i be roughly £300 ish all in with new lower arms rear axel bushes droplinks new trackrod ends etc

i thought i ask in here as maybe i could be pointed to some good quality alternatives maybe aftermarket brands id love to hear some thoughts and opinions

as i am very tempted on the coilovers they just seem too good of a deal to pass up .

The only benefit of cheap coilovers is the adjustable ride height to get the exact stance you want for car shows.

They aren't comfortable.  And they generally break after around 18 months/2 years.  Most are only warrantied for 1 year so much worse value than OEM over a longer time.

I don't think it's worth the cost of OEM on a 10 year old Fiesta though.  I'd go for some known brand aftermarket equivalents instead of cheap coilovers.

As above - cheap coilovers will be a huge step down in ride compliance, and they will fail in twelve months and one day.

Visit e.g. Autodoc and source everything you need from names such as Bilstein, H&R, Meyle, Sachs etc etc.

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/shock-absorber-10221/ford/fiesta/fiesta-vi/113318-1-5-tdci?supplier[]=16

But remember it's just a ten-year old diesel Fiesta that almost certainly isn't ULEZ compliant.  The money you spend will not increase the value of the car.

Nonsense, Jon.  It's a car, not a 3.5T van.  It's totally compliant.

For how long, on the other hand. 😉

I just looked up a 2015 TDCI I found on Autotrader - reg EA15PMX - and it is not ULEZ compliant.

Almost no pre-2016 diesel passes ULEZ pollution levels.  The size of the vehicle has no relevance.

Perhaps the OP has a special version.  Otherwise, his is the same; not compliant.

How did this thread get from "cheap coilovers" to "ULEZ compliant" for a Fiesta the runs about at 20 MPH in Wales ??? 🤣

That website is very confusing i am new to modern fords.   it saying mine is a mk6 but from what i can tell its a mk7.5. i more familiar with older fords xr2 xr3is rs turbos etc

I am not selling the car ever it was a gift from my brother and i am a sentimental soul. its in mint condition apart from the nsf shock and maybe the droplink

still tempted even if i can run them for a year or two

you are right oem is too expensive if i was going to pay them sort of prices i would be better off going for something like Bilstein as there similar priced.

well thanks for the advice guys....  i may take one for the team and just roll the dice and go for the cheap set as i have built up quite a lot of coupons on AliExpress as that's where i be getting them from and they will be shipped from a Uk distributer ... with coupons/ black friday discount they be £120 all in 🤷‍♂️.

see what happens  but thank you for your replies

That's being reversed in most parts of wales.. only outside schools a 20mph zone will be enforced and i am quite alright with that.. the major issue we have on our roads is people on fast e-bikes.

police dont chase them now after the riots

carry on have some banter i have no problems with you going outside the topic 😁.

That's quite something. Driving 20 MPH in reverse, but only past schools 🤣

My advice on upgrading a car includes thinking about the future ownership, and whether the car is worth upgrading.  My advice is currently free.  You can freely ignore it.

Your special skills of adding your comedy one-liners is free as well.

There's always been confusion about what mk Fiesta is what - Autodoc usually tells the truth based on your registration.  Use GSF and ECP to check for the correct part numbers.

Regarding ULEZ - it seems Cardiff is still thinking about introducing charging.

https://www.cardiff.gov.uk/ENG/resident/Parking-roads-and-travel/clean-air-cardiff/Pages/default.aspx#anchor_6

....but generally pre-EURO6 diesels are going to be more difficult to use and therefore sell over the next few years.

Clean Air Zone 1 – Private cars that do not meet the emission standards. For petrol cars, the requirement is a minimum of a Euro 4 engine. For diesel cars a minimum of a Euro 6 engine. The proposed charge was £10 a day.

🤣  reversing cameras would come in very handy.  the 20mph stuff is so stupid we have the signs that pop up and it shows a sad face if your going over 20mph and i seen people slow down from 19mph to 14 mph 🙄... never no cameras on them signs especially in the lanes that used to be national speed limit zones.. its almost a challenge to max it out to 99 🤣

i have modified ever car i ever owned, i cant help myself maxpower generation my 205 was featured in there. first time i ever owned a diesel. had a xr2 a series 1 rs turbo 205 gtis last car was a subaru wrx sti.

Well lets just say the war on motorists in wales has got everyone so vexed that Reform are now leading in all opinion polls.

i wouldn't drive a Ev if it was free there boring and the infrastructure isn't there our power grid couldn't handle it.

electricity is super expensive. there no greener than another vehicle already produced its another scam ..... as soon as they get everyone into Rc cars they will jack up the price of charging.

they wont be happy until they introduce mr garrisons bike but i will end my rant 🤣

Apologies, Jon.  Maybe I could have worded it better, as in they're not currently chargeable.  Saying that, I've just checked that vehicle on the .Gov website and Birmingham and Bristol both charge for it.

No worries, no apologies needed.  I can usually tell a person's intent, even just 'words' and even on the internet 😄

All pre-EURO6 diesels are targeted in conurbations, or soon will be.  Throughout the EU as well.  Therefore probably not a vehicle to be planning on keeping for the long term - sorry OP, and your bro. 🙂

i just hope we get some common sense with governments in the future. the world is nowhere near at a stage to give up on fossil fuels.. feelings override facts 😒

Well I went with cheap coilovers and I am quite impressed not super hard like my cuz st and the drop is nice ...

I put it the lowest I could and still OK stiffer but not hard .

Now need rims

20250808_164056.jpg

A few months ago, I had the suspension changed on my car.  I'd been told when I bought it that it was lowered on coilovers already, but, when the rear axle was changed for the ST one, it became apparent that it was just a spring kit.

I toyed with the idea of a cheap set of coilovers, but, I agree with the mantra of buy cheap, buy twice.  With that in mind I settled on a Bilstein set.

Weren't cheap, but, the ride is firm but compliant.

I been there, on my bug eye scoob I went with a quite expensive tein option, as it was quite heavily tuned power wise it made sense but didn't add any value when i sold it 😏..., but since this is just a fiesta diesal 😅 atm, I didn't mind giving a cheap option a try, £150 delivered and no labour costs to fit cheaper than one leg from ford for a full set front and rear with spring and dampers. Will they last 5 years? Probably not, when I do find a st donor for the swap I'll probably go bilsten too as I read that's the go too option for the fiesta. One of my first hot hatchs was a mk2 fiesta and love how similar it feels to what I remember that was like 👍🏻
