HNBR O-rings for air con

Featured Replies

Me again 🙂

I want to replace the 2 O-rings joining the a/c compressor to its hoses. Ford charges a whopping £70 for 5! Daylight robbery!

the original Ford Part number is 1445820. i know the material must be HNBR because that has a wide temp range from -40 to +175 C and is recommended for use with R134A refrigerants. I know the size is BS211 (3.53mm cross section x 20.22mm internal diameter). What don’t know is which Shore Hardness I need (70 or 90 seems to be commonly sold). *Which is same as Ford and does it matter?*

Note: ebay does a mixed box of HNBR O-rings for air con for a tenner but these are only very small O-rings. But they don’t quote the hardness. I can buy the correct size from specialists for about a tenner a pair but I need to select the correct Shore number.

I know this is rather specialist knowledge but can anyone shed any light?

In case anyone finds the thread in future here’s the info on which rubber seals I used and where to source.

You can buy 6 direct from Eastern Seals for a few quid rather than £70 from Ford  I went with Shore Hardness 70.

The old compressor seals had thinned significantly. These new ones fitted perfectly and a/c now running well and holding pressure.

Hi, thanks Nic.

I too have been looking for the 2 O rings for my AC compressor, certainly didn't want to buy 5 from Ford for ÂŁ70!

I see some people on Ebay are selling the 2 Ford O rings for ÂŁ30-40!

Just received my O rings from Eastern seals this morning via DPD, I ended up buying 10 O rings  as the minimum spend is £5.

Still, the total bill was £11.40 with DPD delivery & VAT. Much better than £70!

Thanks again for posting on here!
