Is this timing chain sound normal? 2023 Fiesta Titanium (Vid

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2023 Ford Fiesta Titanium with the 1.0 MHEV (B7JB engine) which has a timing chain. The car has 32k miles on it.

I can hear what sounds like a loose timing chain noise during acceleration and deceleration. I've attached a video so you can hear the sound I'm concerned about. Since this is my first timing chain variant of this car, I'm unsure if this sound is normal for this engine or if it's something I should be concerned about.

Would appreciate any feedback from other owners about whether this is typical for this engine.

Thanks in advance!

That doesn't sound like the timing chain to me.  Sounds more like a rattly turbo wastegate.

Sounds normal to me. Wastgate rattling.

Thanks for this! Glad it’s not anything to worry about. Unless you think this is louder than usual?

I found a spot where the engine sound seems to be reflecting better. Do you think this could be the turbo wastegate rattling or more of the chain itself? If anyone else with a 1.0 ecoboost has had this and knows what the best fix is, please let me know. I don’t want to bring it into the dealer since they only work weekdays, so I’ll need to take a day off for them to investigate.
