Air Con Service Issues

Featured Replies

Over the weekend I had an aircon service carried out by a Ford main dealer alongside my general service, once I got home I tried out the aircon only to find it was blowing warm air. I called up and was advised that the service team had gone home for the weekend, this is understandable.

I called back first thing Monday morning and have now been advised that it will be £150 to investigate why the aircon is not working and they do not know if this is classed as a warranty issue or not.

I have asked it to be escalated to a manager and am currently awaiting a call back but as it stands I have paid for the aircon to be serviced and it is still blowing warm air.

What would you do in this situation as I am unsure as to where I stand with this.

If you paid for the aircon service then thats what you should have got. If its not working then thats down to them, dont pay another penny and demand the service you paid for. Main stealers are the absolute pits AFAIC. Ive never used them and never will, oh except once for a warranty recall for an airbag i think it was.

How much did you pay for the AC service?

Sometimes garages use questionable wording for just a disinfectant clean, which has nothing to do with the temperature of the AC.

This is my current stance, I await the callback with baited breath... is there an ombudsman or someone able to advise on it do you know?

I paid £90 and they advised this would consist of a clean of the internals and a re-gas, they have currently advised that it is likely due to a leak, however surely it is vacuum tested before regassing?

Any competant garage would do that, but stealers are stealers.

Ah fair enough, should definitely be cold now then.

By law they have to vacuum the system before refilling.  However, that isn't a very reliable test.  It sucks all the pipes and seals in, which is obviously the opposite to being pressurised outwards in normal use.  And it just doesn't last long enough to pick up minor leaks either.  However, if it fell out that quickly, it can't just be a minor leak in this case.

Did it work at all before you took it in?

First thing to check if this is a Mk8 Fiesta is the battery voltage.  AC gets shut off with low state of charge.  Second is gas level/pressure.  If the gas has leaked, then obviously it may take some time to diagnose the fault.  Worth checking if you can see any green dye around the pipes, condenser or compressor.
