Fiesta Van - TDCi - Mk7 (2015 plate)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am having an issue where sometimes the cooling fan continues on after the ignition is off for 5-10 mins, even in cold weather.

I've been going round in circles reading stories about relays sticking and sensor issues so any feedback would be welcomed.

If it is the relay, which one is it exactly on this diagram? - https://www.startmycar.com/gb/ford/fiesta/info/fusebox/2008/country-uk

Assuming I'm on the right one, there's relay R1 (grey) and R7 (blue) associated with engine cooling and cooling system.

Thanks

I had a Corsa van that did exactly the same thing, and its normal behaviour AFAIK. Just remember that just because its cool weather your engine will be running at its normal temp. Depending where the thermostat is at the time you shut the engine off heat might continue to rise for a short time becuase of the lack of airflow while sitting still. Its quite normal for a fan to run on after you shut down becuase its doing its job, ie bring the temp down. It will shut down when the temp reaches a point where the system likes it. That explains why it doesnt always do it, as you say. Thats my take on it but i stand to be corrected....as usual lol.

Is this a DPF model?  If you switch the engine off during DPF regen then the fan will run on for several minutes.

Had the same issue.

Ti's either top left or the one below in your photo..when it runs on again..tap the relay and it will stop

No idea mate. How do I tell? When would regen kick in?

I've bought a new one for a tenner so will change it anyway. Cheers

If you look at the exhaust downpipe right at the front, the DPF versions have a rubber pressure pipe coming out of them.  Feel free to post a picture if you're not sure.  I don't know whether this will be a 1.5 or 1.6 as 2014 was a crossover year, but they are both similar.

Regen kicks in roughly once a week or once every 200 miles on this engine, but there are so many variables it's pretty much impossible to estimate for someone else's driving patterns.

Regens normally happen while driving, and you would not notice. If the vehicle is in the middle of a regen when you switch off, the fan runs for a while to keep the under-bonnet temperature down. It's perfectly normal, and is not a fault!
