ERROR CODE B1218

Featured Replies

Hello,

I scanned my car last night as I have been experiencing some performance issues, but unfortunately, no stored codes were related to this. However, there was a code B1218 listed as an error (see attached). I did a quick Google search, and it seems to be related to the key/security system.

I have also noticed recently that when turning the car off, I get a message about the level of security required.

Do you have any ideas on how to resolve this code?

Thanks,

Clear the Code, it may never come back. Even if it did at some time it is unlikely to be anything to worry about and not related to performance issues.

You should be able to disable the Ask on Exit message for the Alarm System that you are getting when you switch of via your Sync Settings, your Handbook will have details.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I have cleared the code several times, but it still reappears as an error.

Thanks,

Has the ABS pump been replaced or repaired at any time ?

Not since I’ve owned the car for the past three years, though I didn’t have it from new—I bought it when it was around 2/3 years old with 30,000 miles on the clock. However, I did notice that the clips from the scuttle panel were missing, so someone may have worked on it in the past.

Is there any way to find out for sure?

Thanks.

If you can use the full version of FORScan on a laptop you should be able to see if the ABS pump has the correct vehicle VIN number showing.

This could be that the unit needs a software update, which is a Ford dealer job.

Are you sure about that @unofix. With either version of FORScan I can see the mileage, which will show it the Pump has been changed but I have never seen the VIN Number in the ABS Module.

To be honest John, 'no' 🤣

I know that the ABS pump does somehow know which vehicle it is fitted to, and it was my understanding this is/was because it has the VIN stored in it's memory.

Can the full version of FORScan see the VIN in the ABS, I will have to check myself, I'll try and remember when I'm hooked up to the cars tomorrow.

I think that is correct but you would probably need go to into the Asbuilt Data and convert the Hexadecimal number.

Here is a copy of mine when it was almost new.
