Service cost?

Service done. Just waiting to pay.

The inspection did show up a few troubles. Cracked tread in one tyre. Lip on one of the brake disks. But the worrying item is leak from fuel pump possibly the gasket £1050.

I’ve declined the work and shall see if the leak can be fixed with the warranty I bought with the vehicle.

Well I'll give the garage 10/10 for looking for problems and 12/10 for the pricing 🤣

Leak from the fuel pump is oil from the engine I'm guessing. Are they going to fit a new engine to the pump at that price !!!

Get another quote from a sensible garage.

Cracks in tyre treads are very common these days due to a change in the rubber compounds that are now used. Unless you can see the cords of the inner tyre exposed the cracks are not likely to be an urgent concern.

As far as a "slight lip on disc" again not something to be concerned about, and the price is just crazy.

And 6/10 for spelling & grammar!

I shall seek the opinion from my usual garage once I explain why he didn’t get the service job.
it’s possibly something that I could claim for on the warranty?

Tyres, I’m not too happy with one on the front it’s not the same brand as the others and may have been fitted badly as I’m forever topping the pressure up.
strange though they didn’t offer Pirelli Scorpion as an option. I thought that was their tyre of choice supplied on the Edge?

The tyre in question is a Scorpion. Strange how only one has gone this way?

...If your tire is continuously losing pressure, it either has a slow puncture, a leaking valve, or, a porous/damaged alloy wheel... A competent tire place (KwikFit, ATS etc ) should be able to diagnose.

There's something I've never seen said before

I knew that would  make you giggle. I use a competent chain in NI but they don't operate on the mainland LOL

I’ve found Kwikfit to be ok in the past as long as you buy over the website.

They want your pants down and some if you just call in.

on previous vehicles if I’ve had the same issue I’ve found that they usually haven’t applied enough gunk around the rim.
that being said I have also had a puncture from a piece of wire so barely traceable.

one consideration I didn’t make before buying was the cost of good tyres.

i had Crossclimate on my previous car and from KF they were around £120.

on my old 4x4 a Grabber tyre was less.

lucky if you can find anything of quality for less than £250 in a 255/45

And don’t these cars have a sensor in the valve as well?

So you can put a price on safety 😂

UK has mandated the use of TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) since 2014

That’s fine, other vehicles I’ve had sensed the pressure without a sensor in the tyre.

So is it still best practice to change the valve with the tyre?

Pray tell, what manner of witchcraft was used to measure the pressure without a sensor?? 🤣

Possibly meaning Deflation Detection System (DDS)?

Aahhh yes, that unmistakable rumble of a flat tire  😁

The tyre pressure monitor works via the wheel speed sensors of the ABS. With decreasing tyre pressure, the rolling radius of the respective wheel is reduced and the wheel rotates faster for the same car speed

So, a new tire with 8mm tread rolls at the same speed as a worn one with 2mm tread? Fascinating...

There's quite a few threads on the system going back over the years, eg:https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/151174-tyre-pressure-monitoring/ .

I believe it cunningly works out that one tyre is deflating relative to the others.

The valve stem and the TPMS sensor are two separate items. The sensor is only fixed to the base of the valve by a single screw. Each part can be replaced independently.

One other plus worth mentioning.

I washed the car on Saturday (bit like doing the cleaning before the cleaner arrives).

Wanted to give the right impression.

I didn’t get chance to vacuum the inside,

well it looks like they did a mini valet and wiped a bit of tyre black round the tyres including the one they say is duff.

My back street garage wouldn’t have done that

So my oil leak?

suspected leak from fuel pump at the rear of the engine, suspect fuel pump casset.

does he mean gasket or is he quoting some form of mystery Ford speak????

as you do I did a bit of googling.

fuel pump located on the top of the fuel tank where by diy butchers cut a hole in the metal under the rear passenger seats to gain access.

high pressure fuel pump located at the end of the crankshaft. I would expect this to be on the side of the engine?

either way the garage diagnosis sounds odd.

before it goes off to my friendly garage for a fresh pair of eyes, any thoughts of what the problem might be?

Many thanks Steve

Hi All

I've had my Edge for nearly a year now and ever since it went in for the Brake Hoses repair the garage has been messaging me saying the car is due a service.

The car was serviced prior to purchase so it's about due now anyway.

So I booked the car in with the Ford garage for the service but asking for the cost prior to the work being carried out.

The car is an early 2018 having done 68000.

The garage rang me today with a cost.

I asked what work would be done and the breakdown was, Oil and Filter, Fuel and Air filter plus an inspection.

All for the princely sum of £575.

Don't get me wrong I would like Ford to do the work and I would expect to pay for the privilege but I feel nearly £600 is a bit steep.

I would guesstimate the parts would be £100 and It would take me an hour to do the job. For me the inspection is looking for more work to add as an extra. Again not against this if they find something that needs doing.

So by my estimation they want about £400 for the rubber stamp in the log book.

What do you think?

Am I being a skinflint?

Just serviced our 2.0 tdci manual Edge, Oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, fresh oil (all mahle filters) total cost inc garage labour £130… also he gave the car a full check over as I can smell coolant somewhere but has to back in to locate.
