MK8 Fiesta - Wet Belt

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I currently have a 2018 plate MK8 Fiesta 1ltr. Only done 46,500 miles.

I service the car every year without fail and is super looked after.

Now my concern is about this silly wet belt topic! I have been quoted £1,200 for the wet belt to be done. At the age of the car, the miles and how well looked after it is, should I get it done yet or not? Please could someone give me some advise.

Thank you all in advance 🙂

They are intended to last 10 years, BUT, often fail before then. My advice would be to replace it between 8 and 9 years of age.

Lower mileage seems to be no guarantee of safety. In fact quite the opposite seems to be the case with cars of 8 or 9 years of age, but less than 20,000 miles having the belt fail.

I think this decision also depends on how long you intend to keep the car.  If you have no intention of selling, and are likely to keep it to 15 years or more, then you might as well do the belt now to get the use out of it.  If you'd be likely to sell around 9 years old then it becomes a much more difficult choice.

I just had my annually serviced 2018 on similar mileage done, the belt looked in fair nick but that doesn’t guarantee yours is; there are so many variables.

Get it done so you don’t have to worry about it.

As Tom says, if you're planning on keeping it for a very long time, do the belts.

You are a little bit early and under mileage, but if you want piece of mind, at the next service, pay to have the sump dropped and the oil pick up pipe inspoected for debris.

If it's totally clear, keep servicing and change at 9 years

If there's even a slight bit of "belt caviar" in there, get the belts done now
