Problem with LED sidelight/running lights after retrofit

Featured Replies

Evening all. I've retrofitted a pair of OEM tail lights (LED with the stripes) and a pair of LED headlamp units to my 2013 Zetec. The rear tail lights are working absolutely fine, however the front sidelights don't come on with the ignition off. Here is the current behaviour:

Ignition on: LED running lights come on bright for a split second before going dim which I believe is what it's supposed to do when the sidelights or headlights are on. Turning on the indicators or hazards don't dim them any further. When I turn on the sidelights or headlights both the running lamps return to full brightness.

When I remove the key from the ignition or turn the key to position 1 (radio and windows), the lights no longer come on, even on sidelight position whilst the rear lights work as normal. Front lights also don't illuminate when unlocking car.

I believe when I only had one LED unit in and the halogen running light unit for comparison sake, the O/S unit worked as intended with sidelights coming on with ignition off, however the units installed in a pair has stopped the lights from working as intended which will probably lead to an MOT failure if I keep them how they are

Does anyone know the reason for this? The lights I bought are OEM and are obviously from a Mk7.5 or otherwise they wouldn't fit. Do I need to program anything in Forscan?

Yes, you need to turn DRLs on in FORScan I believe

So after looking at other posts you need to enable the LED DRLs in the car's computer by changing the headlamp setting to "Halogen projector headlamps" which can be done in Forscan under the Central Config setting. Now all works properly.

Will leave this post up in case anyone comes across the same issue.
