Engine Vibration on Start-Up

Featured Replies

Hello,

The engine seems to shake on start-up, which I understand can be typical for a 3-cylinder engine due to their inherent imbalance. However, I’m unsure if there might be a misfire, as it’s difficult to tell — the shaking does settle down after a short time. There are no warning lights on the dashboard.

I also have a rear silencer delete fitted, and I’ve noticed a bit of popping noise from the exhaust. I’m not sure if this is normal or something to look into.

Thanks,

From what you've described, the vibration sounds normal. Misfires would eventually result in an engine code being thrown.

I don't know about the silencer removal and consequences.

I'm not so sure about this. Neither my current Fiesta or previous 1.0 have a noticeable "shake" on start up, nor does my wife's 3 cylinder VW Group car.

From other posts, you've had the car 3 years - has it always done this or just started?

I would expect the rear silencer delete to just increase noise, not cause popping noises unless there's a leak, or the car has had a "crackle and pop" remap.
