2015 Fiesta 1.0 Wet belt - advice please 😰

Featured Replies

Hi guys 🙂

I baught my 1.0 Ecoboost fiesta in 2022, not knowing much about a Wetbelt untill now.

My car has 63,000 miles. But because it's 10 years old I need the wet belt replaced this year (please correct me if I'm wrong! I'm not too knowledgeable) I'm wondering what other people have paid for this? I've been quoted £800 (I live in south ayrshire, Scotland) and I'm not sure if that's a great price

Another issue being is I drive 100 miles per week, is this safe to do when I know I'll need a wet belt this year. Please let me know about this, I'm very worried

What is some signs to look out for Incase of the inevitable with these long drives per week.

Thank you guys x

That's a FANTASTIC price 🎉🎉

Ford dealers charge between £2400 and £2800

Your wrong !!

It is now way overdue and your living on borrowed time. The 10 years age has been proven to be wrong so many times, the ideal age is 8 years and sadly even then some engines never last that long.

Hi,

You are right, the recommended interval for the belts is 10 years.  Due to their frequent failures, we would generally recommend they are changed earlier than that.

£800 is a very good price so make sure that includes the oil pump belt as well.

The belts often fail without warning, so I wouldn't bother looking for any signs.  If you do see the oil light though, or hear the engine knocking, then stop immediately as that is a common sign of imminent failure.

Yes, as already said, don't wait until it's exactly 10 years old.

£800 is a very good price, but do check what's included. A friend of mine had his daughters car done at 9 years at the trusted independent which he's used for many years, and that was just under £1000 including both belts and checking/cleaning the oil pump strainer, plus a couple of non-related bits, so say £900-ish for the belt work.

Hi Shannon. I decided to get my wet (cam) belt replaced at 8 years/50000 miles as a precaution and the mechanic said afterwards that it was a wise move. He showed me the old belt, it was starting to split.

My understanding is that, for the belt to last the ten years, the annual service must have been scrupulously carried out to the letter (including correct grade of oil). My car didn’t have such a history, hence my decision.

And yes, my bill was just under £1000, so do it asap. 👍🏻

Hi Shannon

Don't suppose you could say who quoted you the £800. I'm looking at Edinburgh to get it done for £1000.

I'm also in South Ayrshire with 1.0 Focos.

thanks

Nick

Had mine done at 8 years 35,000 miles and there was a tooth missing off the belt. It was starting to break up.

It's not just the wet belt, its also the small oil pump belt that connects around the crank and oil pump
