Well loved old fiesta advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

Our 2004/5 fiesta is nearly due it's MOT and I've found some rust on the back of it's sub frame. I've no idea if this is Just surface rust/expected age related rust or if its significant as an MOT issue. Thought I'd ask in case any mechanics or MOT testers are on here.

Otherwise the car is still perfect and low mileage, due its 10 year belt/wayer pump change but im waiting till after its mot before I do that again (quite enjoy that job!)

Should I do anything? Any point brushing it off and applying underside protector or anything?

I'm guessing you don't live on the coast?  I've seen 3 year old cars with more rust than that!  Looks absolutely fine to me, I wouldn't do anything with it.  Though there's no harm in wire brushing and painting if you intend to keep for many more years.

Brilliant! Thanks. All I need do is change the lower arm ball joint dust covers then (they have cracked) and should sail through MOT again. It lives in Somerset not on the coast.

It's a lovely little car it's only problem has been a cracked thermostat cover (easy fix) in it's life.

I would give it a good under seal should last years.
