Wet Belt Change

Featured Replies

Hi there

I only really use this forum for help and information cause I'm clueless when it comes to stuff like this. Ever since I got the car in 2020 I was always aware of the wet table needing to be changed in the vehicles timeline but never thought about it to now as I'm approaching 90kmiles. Is there any tail tail signs for this to become an issue , most driving I do is motorway driving and too and from work. The car is due a service soon once I've got the funds spare so was thinking maybe two birds one stone type of thing. Touch wood I've not had an issues with the car mechanically right now or even but I know as I'm doing more miles I'm becoming more concerned. I am unsure if the belt has been changed prior from me getting the car from the dealership either.

Plus I was wondering if there is any local garages that people would recommend for ford specialist bits as well. I am currently located in the midlands in Hinckley. preferrable want somewhere local that knows what they're doing with the car when looking at this kind of stuff.

Any help is much appreciated. I am happy to provide any details or more information aswell.

Hi,

The dealership won't have replaced it at 5 years old.

There aren't really any tell-tale signs either unfortunately.  By the time the oil light comes on or you can hear knocking the engine has already been damaged.  Many of them fail without any warning at all, engine just stops.

Yes, get it done asap. Many have failed long before reaching 10 years.

Daughter in law has a 14 plate wet belt Fiesta with 85,000 miles on it now, she's not getting the belt changed and just going to let it happen, then scrap it as such cars with the engine are worthless now, when she got the car no one advised her about the wet belt nightmares.

There are still plenty of 2015 Zetec S Ecoboosts in dealer ads on AT with asking prices up to £6k+ and no mention of belt having been changed. (What they offered for the car may well be a very different story, of course).

Despite all the media coverage, as we can see from posts on here, there are still loads of people who appear to be oblivious!

tbh I wouldn't have gone main dealer anyways as had horrible experience when I got the vehicle from them. I would rather go someone locally or knows what they're doing.
