Manual start required.

Featured Replies

Hi all, my first time posting on here.

I was approaching a T junction earlier and once stationary, my car turned off and an amber notification came up on the dashboard saying "manual start required".

Went to start the car again like normal by pressing down on my clutch and pressing start which didn't work. Somehow got moving again, I'm just anxious if this could happen again in a worse scenario.

Has anybody else had this before??.

Many thanks.

Hi Josh, welcome.

It would be helpful if you include your exact model/engine type/power in your profile as there are various differences.

This sounds as if the stop/start system has turned off the engine (as it should) and has then malfunctioned (by no means unknown😀) requiring a manual restart.

Not clear though how you got going if pressing "start" didn't work?

NB if you don't have an owners manual you can download one here:

Hi sorry.

My model is the 1.0 litre MHEV 155bhp ST line vignale 2022.

The 12v battery is probably in a low state of charge.  Do you have a multilmeter to check voltage?  If not, have you had any issues with keyless entry, AC or power-saver warnings on dash or app?

Another thing that could catch you unawares is that you can select rolling stop with the MHEV cars and a previous owner may have done so.

A good read of the stop/start section in the manual would be worthwhile.
