ABS module and shorts

Featured Replies

One year ago my abs light cane on and my speedo stopped working and cars gears were playing up, last month it got a lot worse and I got "transmisson check" and beeping and couldn'teally drive it.

I disconnected the battery, removed the plug (in the picture) to ABS module and reconnected the battery .... The AC doesn't work, I smelled burning (could be tape I put on the plug) and the car rolls back when in gear D if it is on an incline. The wing mirror also makes a funny noise when you close it via the remote.

I'm not sure what I did incorrectly, according to the internet, removing the ABS module is suppose to help untill you can get it fixed or buy a new one... Or do I need to remove the full module (not the pump) instead of just the plug?

Also, that's terrible advice you've read, can't just unplug an ABS module on a modern car.  That's literally where the engine and gearbox take their speed readings from!

Yea i'm an idiot (in more ways than one), I saw someone remove the ABS computer module from the the ABS unit on youtube and drove the car as normal while it was getting fixed ... I thought just the plug would have the same effect, but I guess i'm screwed and will have to wait untill I can find someone to fix it for a reasonable price then find out what else is damaged. I've heard the TMC/TCM is probabbly borked already and im not even sure what that is.

It's my missus car and I don't drive modern cars much anymore, it's probabbly my fault i'm a sports bike junkie and to be honest I forget how much computers and coms matter in cars these days, I should have got it fixed last year.

Need to go back to basics and get some Forscan fault codes to see what is actually going on (search Forscan123 on here) or pay someone to do it (£70 for a code read is silly when, if you have access to a laptop, free software and a lead at £34 you can DIY?)
Without that anything else is guessing including the comment on the TCM (Transmission Control Module)

The "smell of burning" is a real worry and I'd look at that area with any relevant codes read first.
