Issues with MK7 Fiesta ST MR230 timing

Featured Replies

Just bought what I thought was an MP215 but when trying to put on the timing tool we noticed it wouldn't fit. It was so slightly off. Stupidly instead of marking it we moved the cams to fit the timing tool. Now the car won't turn over and we're unsure of the timing. I'm assuming the car used to be an MR230 due to the slightly changed timing. Can anyone help? Where can I get a timing tool? How can I tell the timing?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Need the timing tool included in the MR230 kit.  If you don't have it then you'll have to find someone who does and borrow theirs.  Probably a good idea to ask on FiestaSTOC and Fiesta Facebook groups as well.  You could ask Mountune directly but I doubt they'll still have any.

The Mountune MR230 kit came with a special timing tool. This tool is required to change the timing belt on a MR230. The official Ford tool cannot be used!

The MR230 software requires the exhaust camshaft to be advanced by 1 tooth. Mountune developed a special tool. The Mountune part number for this tool is 2409-LT-AA and used to be available as a separate item.

Note the difference between the standard tool and the Mountune tool:

Standard tool.

Mountune tool.

The offset of the Mountune tool is clearly visible.

As far as I see it you have a few options:

1. Buy the correct Mountune tool (if still available a separate item).
2. Borrow the correct Mountune tool from another MR230 owner (however the MR230 setup is quite rare).
3. Advance the exhaust cam manually by 1 tooth (I strongly advice not to do this).
4. Make a 3D drawing of the Mountune tool based on the available pictures/information and the dimensions of the available standard tool and have it laser cut out of steel.
