Fuel Issue on MK4 Facelift Fiesta (Crank no start)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Hoping for someone to save me here!

Started a new project on a fiesta mk4 facelift and it’s cranking but not starting. Narrowed it down to a fuel issue as the pump isn’t priming and there’s no delivery to fuel rail. I’ve checked the inertia switch and it’s not that (also checked relay).

Is there anything else it could be before I rip the tank and pump out?

Cheers

Before you start stripping the pump out, it might be worth checking if it's getting power?

Bear in mind that the pump usually primes for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on, then loses power until you start cranking!

Yeah, broken wires at the pump should be checked for first.

As Alan says, check power👍

Any ideas where I can check power from?

The pump itself is in the tank and there's no access through the backseats so it'd be a tank off job.

you should be able to disconnect without moving the tank and check the power

Sorry probably getting annoying now but as there’s no access panel under the backseat how would you propose disconnecting it without removing the tank

From underneath?

No clearance between top of tank and chassis

Tin opener under the back seats?

Seriously though, there must be some accessible wiring somewhere.  If you know where the relay is, you can remove that and the put 12v directly to the relay pins on the high side.  That doesn't rule out all of the wiring of course, but if if it runs like that then we know it's not a wiring issue.  I would also suspect another plug somewhere underneath the car to make production quicker.  If you can find one then you can run the 12v test from there as well.

I just checked the wiring diagrams and only the Courier Van has an additional connector at the rear.

If you need good diagram, the options are Endura, Zetec with AC or Zetec without AC

Ive bridged the pins 30 to 87 and the pump still didnt run, from this Ive diagnosed it as the pump thats failed, dropping the tank tonight. Cheers for the help
