Fuel pump sprocket

Featured Replies

This is probably a simple fix and I may be over thinking it.

I'm currently in process of swapping the timing belt and water pump on my 2013 1.6 diesel.

Crank and cam are both pinned but the fuel pump sprocket is about 2 teeth off the hole, I havent moved it so the car was running.....well like a bag of spanners if I'm honest, but I'm blaming the water pump and damaged lower cover for that.

So can I gently move the sprocket slightly so I can pin it where it should be?  Just because there is a hole and I really think they should all line up neatly or will this result in a plague of locusts?

I know the Haynes book of lies doesnt really mention anything other than the tabs and holes are just so you can tighten it up but it is the Haynes book of lies.

On these the fuel pump doesn't need to be timed up, as all it does is produce a continuous high pressure to the rail & injectors. The actual injector timing is done electronically, by firing the injectors at the appropriate time & for the length of injection required.

Sorry to disagree Alan but my understanding is that the Fuel Pumps don't need to be Timed for Injector Timing but they do so that the times when the Pump needs maximum power to driven coincides with when the Cylinders are producing their maximum Thrust.

If the Timing is out of kilter then problems can develop.
