Gearbox Feeling Off on Low Mileage Fiesta Hybrid

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

I'm reaching out to get your thoughts on an issue I’ve been experiencing with my Fiesta Hybrid 1.0 Ecoboost 125hp (Bought  new in Italy in January 2024), currently sitting at around 4.6k miles, covered by a 7-year Ford Protect warranty.

Lately, I’ve noticed something odd with the manual gearbox:

  • The shift between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear is becoming increasingly stiff and clunky

  • Since yesterday, I’ve started hearing a more noticeable metallic “clack” sound when engaging gears — not a grinding noise, but a sharp click when the gear slots in

  • The clutch also feels a bit heavier than usual, although that might just be my impression

I remember reading here about potential low gearbox oil issues on some Fiestas. I’ve got a visit booked at my local Ford dealership on Monday for a scheduled recall campaign, and I plan to ask them to check the gearbox oil level as well.

Just wanted to ask:

  • Is there anything specific I should request to ensure they check everything properly?

  • Has anyone else experienced something similar with this gearbox?

  • And do you think, with just ~4,600 miles, there's any chance this might have already caused damage?

Thanks in advance for any advice! Really appreciate the help. 😄

(I would love to post a video to let you understand better what I hear and feel when shifting but I believe I can't do it here)

Sounds like a clutch issue

You're right to report it, though I'm sure they'll come back and say "it's a characteristic of that transmission"

Good luck
