LPG

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon All,

We have purchased a 2010 Ford Fiesta that uses LPG, it has been parked up for around six months and we have just started to use the car now. Unfortunately I can't find the button for switching to LPG from petrol, I've looked online and it states that some cars automatically switch to LPG , but this doesn't happen.

I've looked on the forums and can't see any previous topics concerning LPG, so I'd be grateful if anyone could help.

Regards

Hello Darren, firstly your profile says you have a Fiesta 2025 so please amend that as it is somewhat confusing.

The LPG system will very likely be an after market conversion, and each installer does their own thing, meaning if there is a switch it could be anywhere.

Do you know the manufacturer of the LPG system fitted ? Or for that matter the name of the company who did the installation ? The system is potentially dangerous if it has not recently been inspected by a certified LPG vehicle specialist.

Generally it'll start on petrol and then switch to LPG.  So the button should be in easy reach of the drivers seat.

I owned an LPG car and it is a wonderful fuel! On mine, as stated, the car started on 'petrol' but within a mile or so, it automatically switched to LPG. I never had to manually switch it in all the time of ownership.

The LPG system, because it is inherently so reliable, often get neglected in terms of maintenance. There are a few fuel filters, and pressure tests it should go through. I would google 'LPG car service' near you. It shouldn't be that expensive, and they should certainly have the ability to get you working again - I'm jealous! I drove past a garage recently where LPG was 58p/liter...

Just re-read your original post. It should be really obvious where the button is. It also acts as the LPG fuel gauge with a series of LEDs to signify gas level. Are you double sure the car has LPG? It should have a specific gas tank normally located in the boot, and a specific nozzle on the car (could be anywhere) to allow you to fill up with LPG. It may have been sold to you as LPG but the system could easily have been removed so that the previous owner could transfer it to their new car...
