USB port broken - is it an easy fix?

Featured Replies

The USB port in my Fiesta in nearest the gearstick has randomly stopped working. So no Apple Car Play or charging from that port - I just keep getting a message saying the USB device is not responding. The one in the arm rest is working fine (but I use that to power my dashcam). I've called Ford and even though the car is still in warranty (still another year to go), they won't look at it unless I pay £150 diagnostic fee. If it's a Ford fault then they'd refund me and do the work. But if they can find a reason not to do that, then I'd have to pay the repair costs on top.

I've read it could 'just' be a blown fuse? Has anyone else had this? And if so, is it an easy DIY fix for someone not confident repairing cars! Or do I just have to pay the money if I want Apple Sat Nav again 😞

Hi Tanita,

Not had any issues with this on either of my Mk 8s so can't comment from experience. A few threads I've seen on similar issues:

https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/104382-mk8-apple-carplay-stops-working/

A common comment I've seen is changing the lead (particularly on I-Phones) has solved the issue.

Also the port is vulnerable to dirt ingress. I keep a blanking plug in mine when not in use. I've seen comments about vacuuming the port,or picking out dirt/fluff with a cocktail stick.

Thanks Eric, that's really useful. I've tried a new iphone lead which didn't work but I'll check the port for dirt and have a look at those other threads before deciding whether to pay the money to Ford!
