Fiesta Ecoboost Wet Belt

Featured Replies

My wife has a 2015 ecoboost which has only done 38,000 miles.

As it is now 10 years old we have been told it needs the wet belt repalced at a cost of £1700.

Is this really necessary as it's mileage is so low and if it is, is the quoted cost reasonable?

Hi,

Low mileage is worse for wetbelts.  It is arguably more necessary on this car than one with average mileage.

The cost is towards the higher end.  They can be done for around £1000-£1200 if you shop around.  Do check exactly what would be changed if you go for a cheaper one.  Need to make sure oil pump belt is changed and oil pump cleaned etc.

Thanks for your help, will shop around for other prices and be sure to make sure it includes the oil pump belt

£1700 is actually the bottom end of prices members have been quoted by Ford dealers, £2000+ is not unusual, I think the record so far was £4,000!

Independents usually start around £1,000.

This place was recommended by a member on another thread, might be of interest:

"Thurton Auto Centre on the A146. It’s the road from Norwich to Beccles. They use Ford parts and it takes around two days. They are wet belt specialists.

The OP doesn't mention whether it was a main dealer or not.  I assumed independent as the car is 10 years old, but could be wrong, of course.

Where are you based OP?

I recently had a quote from a main Ford dealer for both wet belts and a new water pump for £1800. I was going to book it until a friend put me onto an independent garage about 5 miles away. Got a quote from them for exactly the same work for £900.
