Brake Wear Indicator

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

I have a Fiesta MK7.5 Black Edition, and I was wondering if the brake pads have wear indicators.

I’d rather not replace the pads unless necessary, so if there is an indicator and no warning light is on, I assume they’re still fine for now.

Thanks a lot!

Unless black edition is something special, Fiesta 2008-17 don't show any electrical or other lead on the photos I see so either leave them alone until you get a horrible scraping noise and the brakes don't work as well OR inspect them, OR  get a free brake check OR get a proper service if it's due so you know how much thickness is left and get an idea of the wear rate over time?

How much do you value the safety of yourself, passengers and other road users?

Good suggestion, most of the large chain tire shops offer his service...

But they want to sell brake pads, so they have an incentive to tell you that they are worn out.

Assuming that you are not bone idle, You could remove a wheel, see for yourself, refit the wheel and repeat for the other side in about the same time that it would take to arrange a brake check at a garage. Just saying.

You simply go into the workshop and get the guy to show you how they're worn. It's your decision whether to buy new replacements or nor.

No wear indicators on Mk7 Fiesta.

Assuming that you are not bone idle...

On reading this I could see it was a tongue in cheek comment, and I initially ignored it. However, it came to bug me. For some years now I have been the holder of a 'blue badge'. I no longer have the capacity to carry out the simplest tasks like put air in my tires. I now go to a garage for what use to be my regular Sunday maintenance.

I know it's likely you didn't mean to offend, but I would love to be able to jack my car up and check stuff. I really don't consider myself bone idle, just an ageing bloke with increasing limited capacity...

Then my apologies.  If you have alloy wheels, a small mirror between the spokes  would allow you to see the pads for yourself but if you cannot get down there, the garage is your next best option.

Hi,
I have a Mk7 (1.6 Titanium 2010 plate)
I do not feel this model has any sort of electronic brake wear indicator because as I type this response I am aware my front pads are in dire need of replacement and was planning to get this done in the coming weekend 🫠
Hope this helps.

I'm in your Gang - thank goodness for garden kneelers (for car maintenance, not gardening! 😉)
