Start problems

Featured Replies

Hello

my ford fiesta 2007 diesel 1.6 was stationary for about a month tried turning it on but symptoms where a death battery so did a jump start but then the car wouldn’t crank everything else was working just fine but no crack so next I changed the battery still the same checked all the fuses and relais still the same. Then I changed the starter motor and still the same but when I bridge pin 3 and 5 from the starter relais it wants to start up but dies after about a second ( car has now not worked for 6 months)

now I have been testing and trying but I’m at my end I don’t know what to do next and going to a garage will cost too much but I like the car too much to let it go without a fight so now I hope someone here can help me

thanks in advance

Sounds very much like the PATS immobiliser is active.

Is the red light flashing on the instrument cluster ?

No just the standard 3 sec when I put the key in and turn the contact then it goes off

What about fault codes (Forscan)?

History? - certain it was working fine before it was left and nothing else done, and again, if all else OK immobiliser/key issue (I have no experience of that but defer to higher authority)

Tried it in the beginning but the system I used didn’t read any codes will try this tomorrow thanks

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

OR

For diagnostic use only:

I haven't the faintest idea what that means but if it works, that's progress, however WHY that works and what has caused the problem would still be worth knowing?

If anything connected to negative changes things then that's likely an earthing issue somewhere (wire in loom or earthing connection/strap)?
