BMS Reset After Battery Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, I have replaced my battery with a new one as I thought I would get a more reliable brand. Heard that I need to reset the BMS however the 2 procedures below haven't flashed the battery light on the dash even after waiting 30 seconds after both procedures.

It is a MK7 2015 fiesta 1.2L without start/stop and has manual ignition (not keyless/push to start). Any advice on how to reset BMS is appreciated.

Procedure 1:

1. Ignition on (position II)
2. Headlights on
3. Flash high beam 5 times
4. Press brake pedal 3 times
5. Battery light on dash should flash 3 times

Procedure 2:

1. Ignition on (position II)
2. Headlights on
3. Press rear fog lamp switch 5 times
4. Press hazard switch 3 times
5. Battery light on dash should flash 3 times

I suspect that you are making a small error when trying to complete the procedure. I'll post the two videos below of how it is done. Make sure that you have the drivers door closed when doing the reset.

CAUTION: The reference at the beginning of the video saying that the BMS should be reset after charging the battery in incorrect.

The Battery Monitoring System (BMS) should only be reset if a new battery has been fitted.

These are the videos I used and is where I got the written procedures from in the original post. I followed them carefully and tried each procedure twice but had no luck.

Is there a chance that this model does not have a Battery Monitor Sensor? From what I see online, the BMS is attached to the negative battery cable as shown in the picture.

However mine does not look like this or have another connector. It is a plain simple cable as shown below.

If yours is just a plain earth cable like the bottom photo, then your car does not have a BMS system.
