2009 Ford fiesta won’t start

Featured Replies

Hi,

my 2009 Ford fiesta Ztec won’t start occasionally. The key won’t turn in the ignition to start the engine.
but weirdly if I wait 30 minutes the engine will start perfectly fine.
My diagnostic tool says there are no errors.
I have tried wiggling the steering wheel whilst starting the car (this does not work)

I have also had a brand new key cut, so it also can’t be that.
any suggestions??
Thanks :)

Hi,

Needs a new key barrel if it's not the key blade.

That’s annoying, it’s just had a new battery as that also died

Why are you using a diagnostic tool to diagnose an ignition switch that won't turn? Change the barrel.

Have you tried a couple of new headlight bulbs ? 🤔

Not yet as I let them sit in the Lada for a couple of days. Although I'm only a light eater, I do like them to be ripe.

If you read past the comedy routine above, I would pop the car round to your local trusted independent garage, and ask their opinion before buying a new keybarrel/set/everything.

Tom could well be correct, but worth an ask.

Have you had:

1: the new key cut from the old key or

2: a new key cut from the code?

If 1, you have cut a new, worn key from the old, worn key

You need a new key cutting from either a none worn key or the lock barrel code (which Ford can do for you), you will need the V5

Then it will work properly again
