2007 Dashboard Boot release switch.

Featured Replies

Recently had a problem with releasing the boot using the interior switch.  All works correctly from the remote, but is temperamental from the dash button.

Should work once car is unlocked, but does not. However if I wait long enough (10 minutes ?) the lock motors chunter, indicators flash once, and button works.  This sequence repeats itself once car locked and again unlocked.

So probably not the button, although I have checked it.

I have disconnected car battery, reconnected, fitted new car battery, with car battery disconnected, disconnected all the connectors on GEM/BCM and reconnected.  Repacement GEM/BCM, worked perfectly for three days, then symptoms returned.  Also changed the 20A fuse for the central locking.

Nominal battery volts 12.6V, and charges OK at around 13.8V to about 14.2V.

Have now tried a third car battery, (stolen from the Fusion) but no change - Fusion works fine with battery from Fiesta.

Any ideas ?

My thoughts would have been a fault with the GEM. However since you say that this was changed and the fault went away for a few days, I'd very much suspect a loose or damaged crimp pin in the connector that plugs in to the GEM.

Here is an hypothesis.......

When car is unlocked using the remote, unlock control is sent to BCM , and thus door lock motors, and they unlock.  Unlocked indication from driver's door confirms action to BCM, which then enables dash boot release button.

When car is unlocked by key in the door, unlocked indication is sent to BCM which then unlocks other doors and enables dash boot release button.  If unlocked door indication microswitch is faulty, neither passenger doors unlock, nor is boot release enabled.  This appears to be happening with my car.

Discuss.
