Lid for brake fluid container

Featured Replies

My lid seems to be missing for some unknown reason so I am searching for a new one. My car is a Ford Fiesta Ecoboost 2019. Anyone knows where I can find one or an article number or something I can use?

try the main dealer or motor factors

Yeah I know but the dealer is expensive... But I can't find one on the car parts sites.

Part number: 1943141

Main dealer should be cheaper than online for these so worth asking them first.

Thanks, managed to get one for free because it disappeared after I serviced the car there.

It'd probably sitting on the undertray if your car has one.

How long has it been missing? Brake fluid absorbs water from the atmosphere.

A few months. Haven't noticed anything with the brakes. The car is standing under a roof most of the time.

Its still open to the atmosphere even then.

A few months?  How did you miss it during your weekly under-bonnet checks?

I thought you were going to say a couple of days...the garage must be very trusting for you to say it's been lost through their work from months earlier.

It would have been ok for a few days or even a couple of weeks but having been open for a few months means the fluid should be changed now.

You're unlikely to notice anything until/unless you find yourself needing to do some very hard braking, which will cause the brakes to really heat up. If they get hot enough (over 100 deg-C, which can easily happen) any water in the lines will vaporise, thus expanding in the line, pushing brake fluid up into the reservoir when you lift your foot up, and when you then need to push your foot down again, unless there's been plenty of time for things to cool down again, you're just compressing the vapour, the brake fluid is not being pushed down the line, and thus you suddenly find that you have no brakes (except the emergency handbrake). During normal driving things are perhaps unlikely to get hot enough for you to experience this.

You should ideally be getting the fluid replaced every so often as part of regular servicing. My Haynes manual says every 2 years.

I think that it's reasonable to get it changed now under the circumstances.
