Ambient temperature sensor reading too high

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a 2009 Ford Fiesta. Recently, I programmed the trip computer and installed a new ambient temperature sensor. However, I’ve noticed that the reading on the trip computer (the small display on the instrument cluster) is almost always 10°C or more higher than the actual ambient temperature.

The reading is off even before I start the car, so it’s not related to engine heat. The sensor itself is installed behind the front bumper.

I know there are already some topics about this on the forum, but I haven’t found a clear answer yet. Has anyone experienced something similar? Is it possible to calibrate the measurement somehow, or is there anything I should check? I tried resetting it by holding the AC button and the recirculation button for 3 seconds, then pressing AC again, but that didn’t do anything.

Also, I’m not sure if there are different types of ambient temperature sensors for the Fiesta. Mine has the code: 6M5T-10K936-AB.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I own a 2005/6 Ford Fusion 1.6 automatic and I have the same problem, I fitted a new sensor in the approximate area where the old one was and my instrument panel reads everything as +/- 11degrees, I will change it out again next year and see if it is closer to the actual ambient temp.

Sounds like you both got bad sensors or you have a slightly bad connection in the plug causing higher resistance

Yeah +/- 11 degrees is too much of a tolerance. That can't be right.

I doubt it's a bad connection since my display shows higher temperature which by the design of NTC sensor should mean lower value of resistance.

Sounds like you have a £land special.

Poor quality sensor

Well, it was cheap compared to the others. I’ll have to try a different one.
