alternator light

Featured Replies

my mk 3 fiesta has suddenly decided to have the alternator light come on , when i turn ignition on the light comes on albeit very dull , i stays on on instant start up and remains dull throughout being used .I have recently had a new alternator fitted along with a new starter and new battery about 3 months ago . this issue has only just appeared , the fiesta is only used on high days and sundays , ive chected all connections and battery terminals for any issues ........can anyone shed some light on this please . kind regards kevin

IIRC the 12V exciter/regulator supply to the alternator is fed through that red light from the ignition switch, so once the alternator is generating 12V, the lamp has 12V on both sides, and thus goes out.  There may be a diode in series with the lamp and the alternator, what year is your car ? You have looked at the connections, but as this has occurred after the replacements, I'd have an other look.

Is the battery charging correctly?
