Main beam fault

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I have a focus 2017 1.5 diesel. My main beam lights have stopped working, check the normal bits fuses bulbs ect. The light on dash comes on to say there on but they dont light up. Has anyone got any ideas what this could be.

Hi,

If all the components are working, then that only leaves a damaged or loose wire somewhere between them.

Have you tested for 12v at the light cluster plug with main beam selected?

Hi and thanks TomsFocus.

No I didn't do a voltage check at the cluster. I will do that today and then if there's no power I'll have to start tracing wires back to fuse board in passengers side foot well.

Do you know if there is a diagram for wire colours and/or numbers please.

Thanks. Frank2302

Wiring diagrams are difficult to find for modern Fords unfortunately.  I don't have any access to them.

@unofix might have a suitable one.

The best I can offer is the Ford schematics for a 2014 Focus Mk3.

Having seen this problem with headlights at least a half a dozen time before my money is on two failed high beam bulbs.

The OP says they have 'checked' the bulbs. Visual inspection is not a good indication of whether a bulb is electrically working. Similarly checking the resistance of the element can be very misleading. The only 100% certain way is to replace the bulb with a brand new one.

The second most common error made is that given the many versions and configurations of headlamps on cars theses days, it very often happens that the wrong bulb has been checked.
